This week started off at Alabama Coast Campground in Foley, Alabama, and honestly, we really enjoyed it there. The RV park was easy to access, the sites were wide, and the water, electric, and sewer hookups were all super convenient. They also had two dog parks, which was a huge plus for our little crew. One really cool thing about the campground is that it’s located close to a Navy training airfield — Crash Fire Rescue United States Navy NAS Whiting Field OLF Barin. Watching the training exercises and aircraft activity nearby was actually pretty awesome. We would definitely recommend this campground to anyone traveling through the area.

Of course, we also had our first official travel “oopsie” this week.

Somewhere in the chaos of traveling with a brand new puppy, William completely forgot to stop at Costco before we left Florida to pick up his medication. So on Tuesday, he had to drive all the way back to Tallahassee, Florida — a total of about 7 hours round trip. After that adventure, we decided tacos were absolutely necessary.

So this family of five loaded up into the truck and headed to a little Mexican restaurant called El Paso. It was delicious. Krysta’s favorite part was definitely the salsa — she loved it so much we actually bought some to bring home. William’s favorite part was the massive portion sizes. Great food, super dog friendly, and exactly what we needed after a long day.

On Wednesday, we decided to take a little drive into Mobile because someone recommended a restaurant called The Dumbwaiter Restaurant. The restaurant is located in beautiful downtown Mobile, and the food absolutely lived up to the recommendation. We had an awesome waiter named John who gave us great suggestions on the menu, and every single thing he recommended was amazing. We ended the night with homemade key lime pie, which was honestly the perfect ending to an incredible dinner.

Now, if you remember from last week, we met a really awesome couple at a rest stop in Florida. We exchanged socials, and it turned out they live in Gulf Shores which isnt far from Foley. Krysta reached out, and we ended up meeting them for dinner at OSO at Bear Point Harbor. The restaurant sits right on the intercoastal, and while the food was just okay, it was super dog friendly. Unfortunately, there was VERY loud bingo going on while we were there, so we could barely hear each other talk — but the company made up for it, and we’re really excited to have made some new friends on the road.

Friday absolutely flew by, and before we knew it, it was time to pack up and move again. And wow… it was HOT.

Saturday morning we were loading everything up when William had a pretty terrifying moment while removing the Starlink from the roof of the trailer. He almost got bitten by a black widow spider. At first, he thought it was just one spider, but after doing more research, he realized he had actually found a nest — including a baby female black widow. We are SO thankful he spotted it before anyone got hurt. RV life definitely keeps you on your toes sometimes.

Originally, we had planned to make the entire drive straight through to Red Shoes RV Park & Chalets in Louisiana. But after the intense heat of the morning, and between breaking camp, loading everything up, managing three dachshunds, and the stress of travel day, we were already exhausted before we even left the campground. Then came the black widow incident. That moment honestly shook both of us up. It’s one of those reminders that RV life is amazing, but it also comes with moments where you have to stay alert and expect the unexpected. After the adrenaline wore off, we realized we were mentally drained and in no condition to safely continue a long haul drive.

So instead of forcing ourselves to keep going, we decided to stop for the night at Farr Park RV Campground in Baton Rouge, Louisiana — and honestly, it ended up being exactly what we needed.

This campground was super quiet and peaceful. It’s connected to an equestrian center, and there were beautiful horse pastures everywhere. All of the sites are pull-through grass sites, and the electric and water hookups were easy to access. The only downside was no sewer hookups at the individual sites, but since we were only staying one night, we made it work and just used the dump station at the entrance of the campground.

This morning we finally made it to our destination for the week at Red Shoes RV Park & Chalets. So far, it’s been really nice. It’s attached to a large casino, which makes it a pretty unique stop on our journey. One thing we have definitely noticed on this trip, though, is that Alabama and Louisiana may have some of the WORST roads we’ve ever driven on. They are absolutely putting both the truck and trailer to the test. Thankfully, traffic overall has been pretty smooth, and all three puppies are doing amazing and getting along great.

Now for a few fun facts about Louisiana:

• The Louisiana State Capitol is the tallest state capitol building in the United States, standing at 450 feet tall.

• Louisiana is home to the Guinness World Record holder for the longest bridge over water in the world — the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, which stretches continuously for nearly 24 miles.

Now that we’ve officially landed for the week, we can’t wait to see what adventures are waiting for us next. Krysta’s new job is closed tomorrow, and we already have some fun plans lined up that we can’t wait to share with you all next week. 🖤
