This week we made it to Jamul, California, and this stop was especially exciting for Krysta. After seven long years, she was finally reunited with her sister, who lives in San Diego.
We arrived at the campground on the Fourth of July, and it was packed! Unfortunately, we also discovered that somewhere along the way our Thousand Trails reservation had been changed from a 50-amp site to a 30-amp site. That meant we had to be very careful with what we ran inside the RV. We could only run one air conditioner at a time, and every time we wanted to use the microwave, we had to shut the A/C off first. It definitely wasn't ideal, but we made it work.
That evening, Krysta's sister, Kara, her husband Rico, and their husky, Sam, came over for dinner. William grilled skirt steak with rice and beans, and it was absolutely delicious.
After dinner, we set up the DJ equipment outside, and William spent the evening DJing while Krysta and Kara caught up on seven years of life. It was hard to believe how much time had passed, but somehow it felt like no time at all.
After Kara and Rico headed home around 10:00 p.m., a few of our campground neighbors wandered over after hearing the music. Before we knew it, people were dancing, laughing, and enjoying the rest of the evening together. It turned into the perfect Fourth of July celebration.
Sunday started with brunch at The WAREWOLF, courtesy of Kara and Rico. The food was delicious, and to our surprise, there was even a live DJ playing during brunch, which made for a really fun atmosphere.
After brunch, we dropped William back at the campground while Kara and Krysta treated themselves to pedicures. It was relaxing, long overdue, and exactly what they both needed.
That evening, we all gathered at Kara and Rico's house where William cooked one of everyone's favorites—Chicken Piccata. If you haven't figured it out by now, William absolutely loves to cook, especially when he gets to cook for family and friends.
Monday was a normal workday for all of us, and Tuesday evening we headed back over to Kara and Rico's house where William made another one of our favorite Greek dishes. Good food, more catching up, and family time made for another wonderful evening.
Wednesday turned out to be the most eventful day of the week.
Kara took us to the weekly Ocean Beach Farmers Market, and it was such a fun experience. There were vendors everywhere, live music, great food, and of course the dogs loved all the attention they received.
One bucket list item the whole family took part in was setting our feet in the Pacific Ocean, so now the entire family has been to both coasts of The United States except for Marble so we'll get him to the east coast next year to complete his bucket list.
While we were there, Kara and Krysta decided to get matching permanent bracelets—a little reminder of finally being back together after all these years.
After grabbing a quick dinner, we headed back to the house where the dogs immediately started running around and playing.
Then everything changed.
William came in and noticed Marble wasn't breathing normally.
He immediately picked him up, and put his mouth around his nose holding is mouth shut and blew in until his cheat filled, then William checked his mouth to make sure he wasn't choking.
Within moments, Marble started breathing again, but then he couldn't stand up easily. Every time he tried to sit or walk, he would simply fall over slowly it was like everything in slow mo.
Needless to say, we panicked.
Our first thought was that maybe the dogs had been playing too rough and he had injured his back, but after checking him over, he showed no signs of pain.
We tried to feed him as all the dogs had missed dinner, but he simply took two bites and passe dout in his food bowl while William hel him an the dog bowl on the couch.
We rushed him to the emergency veterinarian which was nothing short of amazing in Chula Vista, CA.
After several tests, including a ultrasound of all his vital organs, the veterinarian finally came back with the diagnosis.
Marble... was high.
Yes... seriously.
The vet believes he found and ate marijuana somewhere on the ground while we were walking through the farmers' market, or at the last dinner spot where he had been eating questionables from the astroturf that the table sat on.
If someone had told us this story instead of us living it ourselves, we probably wouldn't have believed it either.
After a rather expensive $666 (yes the devils numbers) emergency vet visit, Marble was given anti-nausea medication and fluids under his skin, leaving him with what looked like a little camel hump on his back.
All that and we would do it again we were all treated like VIP and for the price to care for our little guy was worth it, so this was our first time to VEG Pet ER, and we are thankful we did as they had everything and anything to diagnose, treat, examine you name it, and give you comfort in knowing everything is being done that can be and to be honest the price was well worth it, although it may have been the most expense weed William has ever bought!
After final discharge we brought Marble home, tucked him into bed with us, and kept a close eye on him all night.
Thankfully, he woke up the next morning acting completely normal, minus having the apparent munchies as he ate, and then ate entire second bowl of food
Apparently Marble decided he wanted to embrace the California lifestyle a little sooner than the rest of us!
Thursday was a quieter day as William and Krysta worked. Kara had planned to come over, but unfortunately their Jeep broke down on the side of the road, so those plans had to be canceled.
Friday was our last opportunity to spend time together before continuing our journey. Before Kara and Rico left for a baseball game, we had a conversation that didn't end the way Krysta had hoped. It was disappointing and left us realizing that sometimes, despite your best intentions, relationships don't always grow in the same direction. While it wasn't the outcome we had envisioned after seven years apart, it brought a sense of closure and made it clear that it was time to turn the page and move forward.
That evening, our friend Blazen, whom we met earlier in the year, came by with pizza. We brought the DJ equipment back outside, played music, talked for hours, and ended the night exactly how we love to spend our evenings—with great friends, good music, and lots of laughter.
Before we knew it, Saturday had arrived, and it was time to hitch up and head toward our next adventure.
As we pulled away, we couldn't help but reflect on everything that's happened over the past few months. It's hard to believe we've traveled this far from our Florida home already.
With every mile we drive, we're getting one step closer to ABGT 700, and we honestly can't wait to be reunited with our Anjuna family.
Until next week...
See you down the road. 🚐❤️
