We ended last week in beautiful Yosemite National Park, and wow... this campground was busy! Our campsite happened to be right in the heart of all the action. We loved sitting outside and watching people walk by, especially when they would stop to check out our Road to ABGT 700 map on the side of the RV.
One thing that seemed to steal the show was our pack of Oscar Mayer wieners hanging on the side of the RV. We lost count of how many people stopped to laugh, point, and take pictures. If our pack of Oscar Mayer had to rate the campground based on how many pets they got, they'd give it a 1,000 out of 10!
Yosemite itself was absolutely breathtaking. Between the waterfalls, rivers, towering cliffs, and endless hiking trails, it's easy to see why it's one of the most visited national parks in the country.
Unfortunately, we didn't get to explore nearly as much as we had planned. Krysta ended up being sick for two days, and just as she started feeling better, William came down with whatever bug was going around and spent the next two days recovering.
Even though we weren't feeling our best, most evenings William still managed to head outside with the DJ equipment. We met so many incredible people from all over the world—honestly, even more than we ever met living full-time in South Florida. That's one of the things we love most about traveling. You never know who you're going to meet or what stories you'll hear.
Before we knew it, another week had flown by, and Saturday had arrived. It was time to hitch up and head toward our next destination.
Let's just say... this turned into one of the most frustrating travel days we've had so far.
Normally, William spends part of each week carefully planning our route to make sure it's safe for a truck and fifth wheel our size. But with both of us being sick, that planning never happened.
We quickly learned a valuable lesson...
You can't always trust Google Maps or Apple Maps when you're towing a 54-foot rig.
As we made our way toward San Francisco, we started seeing sign after sign:
"No Trucks Over 1 Ton."
Then...
"No Trucks Over 2 Tons."
And finally...
"No Trucks Over 7 Tons."
Well... let's just say we exceeded every one of those limits.
Every time we thought we had found the right road, we'd run into another restriction and have to turn around to find another route. What should have been a straightforward drive quickly turned into a maze of narrow streets, unexpected detours, and plenty of second-guessing.
By the time it was all over, we had added nearly an hour and a half to our trip.
William somehow found himself squeezing our big rig through some incredibly tight streets, making impossible-looking turns, ducking under low-hanging tree branches, and even needing to make a U-turn in downtown traffic.
Needless to say, the drive did not go according to plan.
But the adventure wasn't over yet.
Once we finally arrived at the campground, we took one look at our campsite and immediately realized backing into it wasn't going to be easy. Somehow, William worked his magic once again and got our 37-foot, 11-inch fifth wheel tucked perfectly into the site.
The best part of the week, though, was still ahead of us.
We happened to be camping close to some amazing friends we met during the Above & Beyond Bigger Than All of Us Tour, and they were coming to visit us on Sunday!
We have some incredible adventures, amazing views, and a lot of fun planned together.
You'll have to come back next week on Solitude State of Mind to see where the road takes us next!
